  1. I have had the corded DeWalt Cutout Tool (DW660) for over a year and found it a good tool but the cord was a pain to deal with as I use the other fine DeWalt cordless 18V tools and shun cords like they were snakes.

The new cordless one works great. A must have if you do much cutout work. Sure, you can cutout a hole with a sheetrock saw but why bother if you have the 18V system already the cutout tool is quite reasonable and you have the power source already!

I was disappointed that the side handle from the old DW660 does not fit the DC550 tool also, I never doubted it would so did not check this out first. If one is available, I have not seen it on a quick search. The side handle has an adjustable pivot point that gives you perfect circles every time, I will miss this convince as free-hand my circles look more like the outline of some fruit in a Picasso painting.

Bottom line it is so much easier to work without dragging the cord around and I have found great use for it using rotary rasps to persuade that stubborn lockset to fit by knocking off the high point without getting any tear-outs like I get with a round rasp.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because my old side handle does not work on it and this meens I have to hang on to the old doofus with the cord for the occation I want a real nice round hole that is not hidden.

Add the DC550 to your DeWalt 18V toolkit.

  2. Being a carpenter for 25 years and haven hung lots of drywall I was skeptical about this tool. But I wanted to get rid of yet another cord to trip over. For cutting drywall ( which is its primary use) it is awesome. Tons of power and the battery lasts for about 6 hours of drywall installation. If you are a sheetrocker or an avid DIYer I say get this tool.

  3. The tool works well. The only issue is that with the battery, its quite heavy. You can get cramping from using it to much without resting.

  4. This little cut-out tool has proven fairly convenient for close-quarters applications (where a sawzall may not be practical). Although a variable speed control would be nice, I remain a satisfied Dewalt consumer and anticipate future purchases from Toolsbynet.

  5. I am using this tool on a job now. I wasn’t sure how it would work because of some bad reviews but, I’m happy with it. I haven’t had any problem with the batteries not lasting as long as expected.
